Updated Fix - Interim Fix 1 for IBM Notes 8.5.3 Fix Pack 4

Michael A Stokes  15 May 2013 10:04:23 AM

A missing file in the Windows versions of Notes 8.5.3 Fix Pack 4 and 8.5.3 Fix Pack 4 Interim Fix 1 is impacting some Windows applications, preventing them from running (see examples below), and thus those original fixes were pulled from Fix Central and Passport Advantage. 8.5.3 Fix Pack 4 (and subsequently 8.5.3 Fix Pack 4 Interim Fix 1) required a Microsoft runtime re-distributable to be included in the package. The run-time was missing a key file.

A revised Interim Fix 1 for Notes 8.5.3 Fix Pack 4 was posted to Fix Central on 14 May 2013 (new dowload links provided below). This revised fix supersedes Notes 8.5.3 Fix Pack 4.

My NOTES.INI collection of favorites

Michael A Stokes  23 April 2013 05:17:41 PM
This is a Work In Progress page.

A reference for myself more than anything of a collection of NOTES.INI parms that I've come across that I've added to my base line list of must have INI parms for IBM Notes & Domino.

Before you use any of these make sure they are appropriate.  I'd suggest start with these and use them to invoke your own thought processes on what it is you are aiming to achieve.

Client

$Custom_SubjectConfString
- Allows you to define a string of text that will prefix the Confidential text in the Subject line of a message
DisableDelKeyForNavigator
- Prevents accidental deletion of folders in the navigator when you think the focus is the Inbox etc.  From AusLug 2013

Customising the Confidential string in the IBM Notes subject line

Michael A Stokes  23 April 2013 01:01:37 PM
By adding the following INI parm to your Notes.INI for your IBM Notes client you can customised the Confidential string that is used in the subject line.

Setting $Custom_SubjectConfString=IBM will insert IBM before the Confidential text.

You could set the value as any text you want so either your company name or something more generic like $Custom_SubjectConfString=Internal

Local mail file - delegation issues - Unable to open calendar

Michael A Stokes  16 October 2012 08:26:36 AM

Technote worth consideration for those looking to upgrade IBM Lotus Notes clients to 8.5.3 FP2.

With a location document set to a mail file on the local machine rather than the server replica when attempting to open a mail file you have been delegated access to (calendar, inbox etc) you receive the error:

"Unable to open calendar for CN=Firstname Lastname/O=Orgname"

SPR SNES8WZPEZ is suppose to address the issue.

More details in this Technote -  http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21607928

EDIT 24-10-2012
IF2 now available for  IBM Lotus Notes 8.5.3 FP2 that addresses SPR SNES8WZPEZ - http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21614935

Database collection error - Entry not found in index

Michael A Stokes  15 October 2012 01:16:51 PM

Recent issue I came across with a customer reporting one server continually reporting an error - Entry not found in index
The console and associated logs were filled with errors similar to this:

[10790:00015-3946838896] 11/10/2012 15:20:10 Database collection error: /domino/dom/server/data/ddm.nsf: Entry not found in index
[10790:00016-3946572656] 11/10/2012 15:20:13 Database collection error: /domino/dom/server/data/events4.nsf: Entry not found in index
[10790:00012-3946572656] 11/10/2012 15:20:13 Database collection error: /domino/dom/server/data/names.nsf: Entry not found in index

The precursor to this is that they found the errors whilst correcting an issue where one of the "admins" had decided to replace the design of the Domino Directory with a mail template. Immediate concern is that the Domino Directory on the server is corrupt and so the standard replace options are done and we still see the error.

Further digging around by eliminating (or in our case including server tasks manually) shows us the events task would be the culprit.

Another "admin" or maybe the same "admin" who replaced the design of the Domino Directory had created a default database probe and for whatever reason had decided that the predefined ignore values should be changed. Removing the ignore entry for - Entry not found in index [[ 0x0404 ]]

Note that when you create a Database Error Monitoring probe it states the following:
This probe monitors key locations in the database software layer (NSF/NIF) and generates event documents for any errors that occur. Because some errors occur naturally, an error exclusion list can be configured with this probe. The schedule for this type of probe is not configurable.

Manage Return Receipts

Michael A Stokes  27 September 2012 09:16:01 AM

Putting this here more so for my own reference.

With each new mail template that is made available I end up removing the return receipt customisation and end up back at a Google search box looking for the method used to show and disable these in my IBM Lotus Notes client.

3rd result currently in Google will take you to Steve's Weblog - Link

In Steve's blog post he links off to two developerWorks articles although those links appear to have changed.

The two articles are:
Blocking return receipts
Creating a return receipt indicator

My preference is to implement the Blocking return receipts option as that allows you to decide when opening the message what action you want to take.

The article on Creating a return receipt indicator simply shows you have a message that will send a read receipt. If you wanted to delete the return receipt you would need another piece of code in an agent to either delete the ReturnReceipt field or change the value.

We’d only be trying to make SharePoint do what we can already do with the Notes platform.
